"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit." - Aristotle
Servcorp strives to be an excellent corporate citizen by supporting the communities and the global society in which we do business.
Servcorp supports many local charities and causes around the world, many of which are close to the hearts and minds of Servcorp team members and the management. We are committed to lending a helping hand and supporting those people in our community who may not be as fortunate as others.
Both team members in each country and senior management hold charity functions and balls, run raffles and undertake donation drives all year round. Every dollar that is raised by our teams on the floor is matched dollar for dollar by Servcorp.
The Joan Salter Fund
Servcorp actively raises money for the Joan Salter Fund, a charity helping young people with cancer and debilitating diseases such as multiple sclerosis. The Rotary Club of Sydney, Australia - Joan Salter's own Rotary Club and an organisation close to her heart - administers the fund on Servcorp's behalf.
Joan Salter was Servcorp's International General Manager from 1985 to 1996. A vibrant, successful businesswoman, she was instrumental in Servcorp's development. Joan succumbed to liver and bowel cancer at age 46.
Youngcare
Servcorp recognises that aged care facilities may not be the ideal place for a young person with high care needs. However, many young Australians are forced to reside in aged care facilities simply because there are no alternatives. Youngcare was formed to provide relevant and dignified lifestyles for young Australians with high care needs.
Servcorp has held several charity events and fundraisers and raised in excess of $250,000 in the 2008/09 financial year.
The Cancer Council
Servcorp team members all around Australia participate in major fundraising events for the Cancer Council (Daffodil day and Pink Ribbon Day) by donating their time and money.
The Cancer Council is Australia's peak national non-government cancer awareness and control organisation. The not-for-profit organisation advises the Australian Government and other bodies on practices and policies to help prevent, detect and treat cancer. They advocate for the rights of cancer patients for best treatment and supportive care.
National Breast Cancer Foundation
The National Breast Cancer Foundation was established in 1994 to promote and support breast cancer research in all its forms. To date, the foundation has allocated over $27.4 million to 163 breast cancer research projects throughout Australia. The National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) is a not-for-profit foundation established to promote and support breast cancer research in all its forms.
Respect
Respect is a surgical procedure targeting liver cancer which dramatically reduces blood loss by 70 - 90%. Forty patients have already undergone Respect, and it is hoped that this innovative technology will one day lead to a cure for liver cancer.
The Joan Salter Fund also supports the research into the causes and treatments of bowel and other cancers. This research incorporates factors such as lifestyle, diet, and ethnicity. Surprisingly, it is the first in-depth study of its kind, globally.
Dry July
“Dry July” is a new initiative started by a Servcorp team member. Individuals and groups took on the challenge of a month-long sponsored abstinence from alcohol. More than 1,000 people participated in this month long event during July, an amazing accomplishment for its inaugural year. In 2009 this grew to more than 4000 participants raising more than one-million dollars.
The Servcorp teams donated over $10,000 of their own money and the company matched that amount.
MRC Biotech
Servcorp supports MRC Biotech’s work on the inhibition of tumours. It is hoped that MRC's research into Vitamin D3 and Albendazole will ultimately help those suffering from liver cancer. Unisearch, a University of NSW research team, is now testing these patented treatments on patients.
MS Society
Servcorp gives young people immobilised by multiple sclerosis access to the World Wide Web. This special cyber lounge is designed for patients receiving treatment or living at the MS Centre in Lidcombe, NSW.
Salvation Army
Servcorp continually supports the Red Shield Appeal's work.
